My New Poker Blog

August 13th, 2008  |  by billywest | Published in Journal, Poker  |  2 Comments

The PokeristAnyone who knows me, knows that I play poker a lot. Of course, in Japan the only options I have are online play and local tournaments around the Tokyo area, which are basically drunken donkfests with no real chances at winning anything worthwhile since gambling for money is illegal in Japan.

Well, bitching about the lack of real poker in Japan is not the reason for writing this post. The launch of my new poker blog, “The Pokerist” is. I’ve tried in the past to maintain a poker blog, but found myself too busy to regularly add content. Another thing I failed to do in the past with my previous poker blog was to social network with other poker enthusiasts. This time, I hope to do a bit of that. Also, what I did with my previous blog was track my stats and post about my performance at the online tables (I never had a blog when I played live in casinos back in the States). This time around, I’m not planning to use my poker blog solely as an online poker diary, so hopefully it’ll attract more readers.

The Pokerist is up and running now, but at this point the content is sparse. I’ll try to add to it regularly and keep in touch with other poker bloggers. If you’re interested in poker and have a poker blog (Not sure very many people who’ll read this post are and do), please visit The Pokerist and drop a comment and a link to your site.

Cheers!

A Rare Appearance on My Own Website

by billywest | Read | 3 Comments

I spend most of my online time these days working on 3 websites, 7:10 to Tokyo, JapanBlogger, and Japan or Die! If you follow 7:10, you know I try to keep it updated with new content as much as possible. I’d like to say the reward for that has been an insane amount of traffic to [...]

Informed Pacifism And The Radicalism Of The Ignorant - Japan and South Korea

by billywest | Read | No Comments

In South Korea, they’re protesting the importation of U.S. beef and calling for the impeachment of President Lee Myung-bak. In Sapporo, they’re protesting the G-8 Summit. While the protests in Japan have been relatively small and uneventful so far, the protests and candlelight vigils in South Korea are drawing crowds that number in the tens [...]

Standing Tall In A Foreign Land

by billywest | Read | 11 Comments

I live in Japan, but this article could be written about my life in any country outside my native land. I suppose living in different countries brings different experiences overall, but even though each country has its own unique culture and way of doing things, in every case, I would still be a foreigner.
Like a [...]

Goodbye, George

by billywest | Read | No Comments

Each of us has in mind different famous people (usually only a handful) who when they die, it hits hard. Sometimes we see these people getting older and we think to ourselves, Man, when this person passes away, it’s gonna suck. For me, George Carlin was one of these people.
George Carlin was a brilliant stand-up [...]
